United Kingdom
Known for one-year master’s degrees in every subject
Opportunity
Most taught master’s degrees take one year in any subject, from engineering and business to health, law and design. The Graduate route then gives 2 years of work, or 18 months if you apply from January 2027.
Work-life balance
5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year by law, which is 28 days for a five-day week.

Median full-time pay was £39,039 a year in 2025. The minimum wage is £12.71 an hour from April 2026.

Rules to know
Up to 20 hours of work a week in term. Show £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 elsewhere, held for 28 days. Taught master’s students can’t bring dependants.

Rules to know
Work up to 140 full days a year. A blocked account needs €11,904 a year. Indian applicants need an APS certificate; engineering and business master’s applicants also need the dMAT test from 2027.
A Schengen residence permit lets you visit other Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180. After 12 months on an EU Blue Card, moving to another member state for skilled work gets simpler. Some countries lead in one field: the Netherlands’ Wageningen is 1st in the world for agriculture (QS 2026).
